They take cash meaning only quarters. You put it into the machine upfront.

Whoo-Hoo, hooray for East hampton (& cheers for The Hampton Jitney bus!!!)
My parents used to have a "summer" house there and we went there every year up until 1990 (91?), when there was some huge hurricane and the damage costs/plus year round up keep was too expensive, so they sold it (and they were in the middle of divorcing anyway)

Okay, now that i've shared my personal history...
Fares

Regular - $1.50
Student - $1.00 (High School/College ID required. Between 14 to 22 years old.)
Children under 5 years old ride free (Limit 3 children when accompanied by adult)
Senior and Handicapped Persons 50 cents.
Personal Care Attendants Free (when traveling with handicapped passengers)
Transfer:
-25 cents
-Available on request when paying fare
-Accepted only on connecting routes
-Valid for two hours from time received
-Not valid for return trip
-Special restrictions may apply (see transfer)
Passengers Please

-Have exact fare ready; Driver cannot handle money.
-Passengers must deposit their own fare.
-Arrive earlier than scheduled departure time.
-Tell driver your destination.
-ST Drivers are required to announce Major Bus Stop locations.
-Smoking, Drinking, Eating and playing of radios is prohibited on buses.

Reduced Fare Program for Senior and Handicapped Persons

Persons with valid, municipally issued cards identifying them as at least 60 years old or mentally or physically handicapped may ride for the reduced, one-way fare. A valid Medicare Card is also accepted as ID. Persons must display their ID card to the driver when paying the fare to ride at the reduced rate.

The buses take cash, but they're big on exact change - it's $1.50.
