It is very easy to make a mask of paper mache (not sure of the spelling). It is basically strips if paper in a flour paste. You can carefully prep your own face liberally with Vaseline and pull your hair back. Put the wet strips on. Make sure to get all the strips on before it dries out. Once it sets (only a few minutes) gently pull from chin up. If it sticks, tug harder but be careful. This is easier with someone to help. My daughter did this at her school last year. It turned out cool. They painted them when dried. Theirs were Egyptian funeral masks.

Sure, a paper bag! It could have holes for the eyes and nose, and a flown, that's a :(. Then, for the historical context, you could go as me: someone who voted for Bush in 2000!
