So i went to there website and ordered basic dsl for 10.00 a month for 1 year with a 49.95 rebate for modem. I live in Illinois. I'm reading some bad reviews about there dsl not being reliable. Do you think i made a mistake. Because i never had anyproblems with dialup

Depends how far you are from the central office.

My DSL works great and I do not get the over used slowness like cable does

I can't speak for everyone because I'm sure that there are people out there with horror stories to tell you about DSL service but for myself and several of my co-workers, AT&T DSL has been very reliable for the past 4 years. The speed might not be as fast as cable but it is plenty fast enough for me and costs about half of what cable internet costs.

I think that you will be happy with DSL. Not only will you save $6.00 a month but you will also have faster internet access and you won't be tying up a phone line while you are surfing the web.

Good luck,

Dial up is from stone age, so abandon it.

Just to add a comment regarding cable modem vs DSL. With DSL, the line between your home and the switch office is all yours. With cable modem, the cable is shared among you and your neighbors. So, although theoretically, cable modem can reach higher bandwidth than DSL, you may experience a slowdown when all the kids in your neighborhood are playing online games.

Unless you are experiencing problems with DSL i would not worry about it. You will like it better and will wonder how you ever got along without it. Depending on your network you may not have to pay like with AOL because you have your own hook up.
