I think he deserves it! A little overpaid though, but he's still young and has a lot of years to come and prove his worth.

Your opinion guys?

To Ottawa it may be a good deal. They now have their three brightest young stars locked up at 2007 salary rates. Another team (like say the Rangers) might have paid that much for him but I think others may not have. For Ottawa though, this means Spezza, Heatley and Emery are locked up for at least 3 years at today's NHL prices. It may seem like a bargain in the case of Heats and Spez 5 years down the road when top players will all be drawing over 10 mil a season.

OH surely! all human beings that asserts no, does not understand his which ability to the Senators. With him and heatley locked up for 7 and 6 years, and emery for 3, they're a particular stress for destiny years. Spezza is up and coming and a solid play maker to heatley! spezza can score, too. at 7 million i say thats a solid purchase!

OH ABSOLUTELY! Anyone that says no, doesn't understand his meaning to the Senators. With him and heatley locked up for 7 and 6 years, and emery for 3, they are a definite force for years to come. Spezza is up and coming and a great play maker to heatley! spezza can score, too. at 7 million i say thats a bargain!

I think it's fair. Spezza is one of the best young playmaking centers in the game right now. He would be a great player if he could play defense, but right now he's a single dimensional player. Nothing wrong with that when you're as gifted offensively as he is, but a little back checking wouldn't hurt. The big problem with him is that he's injury prone.

That said, if he was on my team, I'd sign him to that contract too. 7 million seems like a lot but it really isn't in today's NHL. Just look at what it's getting the NYR in Scott Gomez. Good signing by Ottawa.

He's underpaid. Only Thornton (1.44) and Crosby (1.40) have a higher points per game average than Spezza (1.34) since the end of the lockout.

I know I wouldn't want 7 more years with ottawa. But if I was making 49 mil to play hockey I'd take it in a snap.

He's not overpaid at all. Prove his worth? I think he's already proven his worth. I think he is the 3rd best offensive player in the league, behind Crosby and Thornton. He just gets injured often. I think he'll get over that though.

Spezza deserves it a heck of a lot more than Vanek does.
