Don't panic, it's not going to go bang. Like a lot of people have said, you can get away with a small amount of petrol with no problem. It's generally considered that 10% - 15% is absolutely fine, and what you've got is less than that.

In fact a lot of farmers around here add something like that ratio of petrol to their machinery to help stop diesel gelling in cold weather - as they refuse to spend money on costly "additives".

Now go and re-educate your man!

No problem, my daughter completely filled my diesel car with petrol on one occasion and after draining the tank as far as possible and filling with about 50% diesel the remaining petrol burnt off. It is a fact that in the days before additives farmers used to put a gallon of petrol into the diesel to stop the fuel from freezing in winter.

Sounds like 4 litres of petrol in a tank full (50 litres?) Shouldn't be too much problem. If it's running ok get it down to near empty and then fill it up. Do that a couple of times and that'll get rid of the petrol. Possibly the injector system will have a bit more wear due to the reduced oiliness of the mix but that won't raise its head for a long time

it will be ok my sister put 7 pounds worth of petrol in my saxo and then put diesel on top and that was ok £4 pounds is not a lot with a full tank of diesel on top so you shoulnt have any real problems it may sound a little noisier than it normaly dos or run abit lumpy at tick over but dont worry

should be no problem £4 of fuel is about 4 Lt's, don't now what
car you have got but I should think the tank holds at least 30-35Lt's of fuel so you have only about one fifth of mix.
So after you have used about 1/4 tank top up again by the time you have done this on the 3rd top up all the petrol should be gone.
If to much petrol was put into the tank the engine would pink
[rattle like timing out] also the extra heat caused on combustion could damage fuel injectors.

belive it or not he probably did you a favour!the petrol will help clean the filters and injectors .it will run a little hotter until u run it out, when its half empty fill it back up again.and u are nearly there .keep an eye on the temprature gauge for a few days.i do this to my diesel shogun at least once a year

Could`ve been worse if it was a petrol tank and he`d filled it with diesel!!

did it myself a while ago! it will be fine! it was only a small amount of petrol washed down with a load of diesel! apparently its worse the other way around, you need to syphon it! But my car was fine..

Type & Year of Car or Truck? Size of Tank? (Check Owner's Manuel) Engine Type & Size?

Add Injector Cleaned and it should be ok if it's running good so far
