Cold War is great ground for reseach esp around the area of the détente coupled with the on-going client state battling the the third world this is even a more intresting area on acount of Nixon traveling to China and the abilty of America the reach out when capitalist goal are in order(this is of couse more national in scope).

If you go the AR you could think about the failure of the British goverement to try and come to a Compromise with the Rebals during the early day in when in that time there were mainly calling for there right as subject of the British Crown. You could also look at the wide spead dislocation of the United Empire Loyalist due in part to a failure of reconceliation between them and the new america repulican goverement.

If you want some thing total differene you could go with the Racial Imbalance Law and the Desegregation busing in Boston during the 1970's along with the the wide spead civil unrest that came about because of it (it was a compromise to the idea that there was unbalance between white and unwhites in the schools)

final the Embargo act of 1807 and the resulting war of 1812 was the near seperation of mass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embargo_Act_of_1807

Lots of stuff on the Civil War. It was a conflict and had a compromise. Of course in Massachusetts it would probably be the Revolutionary War.

hey, I do NHD, too. I would suggest reading any topic that interest you and then connect it to conflict and compromise because this requires alot of commitment and it would definately be way easier if you did it on something you like!
Also, check the websites you school subscribes to, and go on them, they may spark something ? Good Luck !!!!
