It all goes back to the social roots of it. Drinking alcohol is part of Western Culture and it would be almost tabu to outlaw it. Pot, on the other hand, is not as assimilated into our cultural history. The reason pot is illegal in America has it's roots in economics and monopolies. Pot was originally a tax crime and was regulated by the treasury department for many years.

Health-wise, you're absolutely correct.

I agree, but if you don't ban it how can you regulate it. Smoking pot leaves you less motivated. You may think of "bright ideas" that will "change the world". Problem is you can't remember them when you come down off the stuff. Most people who smoke it don't know the meaning of moderation. I think the world is screwed up enough without everyone being stoned, don't you think?

Because they can tax booze and lets face it pot in time will mash up ya brain.Espically if ya tug on green,mind blowing

i do not understand the argument that weed will lead to harder drugs. Users of harder drugs will have drank and smoked cigarettes before the use of hard drugs but these are never seen as gateway drugs. Why is that

Mainly because they already figured out, during the Prohibition era, that banning of alcohol does not work.

Weed can be a killer to if it leads to harder drugs

and went right for the hard stuff?

What about a McDonnalds, that will kill you too. Let campaign to have pot sold in McDonnalds. We need consistancy here :)
