Ok, I have a 20 gallon aquarium and I've prepared it for discus. I know all about the setup of hardness and ph but now I need to know what other kinds of fish. I was thinking since these are small discus (2.5") I would include neons/danios, rams?, and possibly a clown loach. How many and which fish would work in a 20 gallon aquarium?

1. You need a bigger tank. If you had done your research, you would know that Discus are easily stressed, and the best ways to stress a fish are poor water quality and cramped spaces.
2. You could keep some slow moving Tetras or Rasboras in there, but not Neon sized fish. Discus, as they mature, may gladly snack on your school of Neons. Danios are extremely hyper and can easily stress a Discus with their constant darting.
3. Clown Loaches grow to be more than 10 inches long, and are shoaling fish, which are ENTIRELY unsuitable for any tank less than 55 gallons.

Each discus will need a bare minimum of 10 gallons of water and a tank depth of at least 18 inches. If this is going to be a permanent living arrangement for your fish, I'd get a larger tank before considering buying additional fish. Ideally, you need a minimum of 40 gallons to house the fish you're interested in.

If you know all about the fishes requirements, then you know that Discus require a much larger tank than that, and that they do best in a "species" tank dedicated just to Discus.
