$1.40 ? I'm pretty sure it was within 5 cents of this. More possibly, but less I seriously doubt. I know in '96 I was paying between $1.10 and $1.40. Mostly in the $1.25 and $1.35 range. These people saying $1 are wacked in the head. It wasn't that cheap. I don't care what an article in CNN said. In the late 80s it was pushing 90 cents a gallon. That's bull crap to think it took ten years to go up a dime. It was like 60 cents a gallon in the seventies. These outrageous hikes didn't start until very recently. People were outraged when it jumped to $1.76. The congressmen promised to do something about the very recent public outrage when it went up to $1.76, but here we are with prices topping $3 and oil companies posting profits higher than anything else in the world. http://www.statcan.ca/english/freepub/50-500-XIE/transenergy.htm

Dont get me started. Bush, what a fool. He said in the first election he was going to hold some real talks with the Saudis after Clinton let gas rise to $1.60 a gallon. I'd like to choke every one of you who voted that moron into office. My pet fish is smarter than that Texas fool.

those days are gone. i take a while guess, i would say $1.35 a gallon. i could fill my Geo Storm up for $15.00 and it would last all week. now, i fill up a Mustang for $45.00 and that doesn't last all week. gas is $3.05 per gallon today 11/2/07.
