12 states have adopted laws banning protesting at Funerals... I think it is disgraceful to protest ANYTHING at someone's funeral.... whether it's a doctor who performs abortions, a soldier , a homosexual, an athiest or ANYONE... A funeral is not the time OR the place... If you have something you want to protest, there are TONS of other opportunities then someones FUNERAL to demonstrate against whatever you want to protest about.. and plenty better places then a funeral. These soldiers and their families did NOTHING wrong to have their grief made worse by a bunch of fanactics from kansas or ANYWHERE ELSE for that matter. Even the family of Jeffrey Dahmer deserved respect at HIS funeral.....don't these supposed RELIGIOUS people realize it isn't the DEAD they are insulting by their stupid protests---it's the LIVING MOURNERS who are already grief stricken over the loss of a FAMILY MEMBER!!!!???!! I think ANYONE who protests ANYTHING anywhere NEAR a funeral should be arrested ON SIGHT and fined HEAVILY.... Why do so many people believe it is OK to hurt someone ELSE to get THEIR point across???

I'm all for protesting whatever you feel strongly about, but damn...

Have a little respect for the mourning.

We shouldn't need such laws.

Edit to add:

Cookie Monster,

I live very close to one of the largest national cemeteries in the US and I can attest that there are often caravans of bikers following behind funeral processions.

I seem to remember a story about a bunch of bikers who, when they hear of these protests, get together and block the view to the mourning family members. When the protestors start screaching, they turn up their engines and drown them out. God bless them! I agree with floating 100%. It is hard to condone passing laws against protesting but with great Americans like these, we can handle the situation.

They are not banned but have to keep a certain distance away from the funeral in Illinois. The bikers here are called the Patriot Guard. I have seen them at 2 funerals here in my city. They are awesome.
