No, I used the grass blades, too. Never learned to whistle very loudly between my teeth, but would love to do that. Did learn to use my two little fingers, but that only works sometimes. Feel really stupid when I am all set to let blast and nothing happens. And I'm a little more reluctant to do that nowdays as I often have my hands in some pretty grimey stuff.

I remember putting the candy wrapper platic paper stretched between the fingers and blowing on it and making a shrieking whistle, but that is about it. I can whistle a little bit still, but not like when I was a kid.

No, I never did that. I wasn't allowed to go near the railroad tracks. As a youngster, I saw kids take a blade of grass, hold it tight between their thumbs, & blow into it, to whistle. I never learned to do that either.

My mom showed me how to whistle between two strips of grass. It has to be the wide wild grass you find in the tall weeds. It certainly gets your attention.

Never did.
We lived by the railroad tracks, too, but I never found any metal strips there.
Found lots of empty pop bottles to take back to the store and got 2 cents for each one.

I'd never heard of doing that, we used blades of grass to make a whistling sound. We'd put the grass between our thumbs-side by side and blow on it. Your jaws ached like fire when you were done.
