It's Mr. Ecko's ball, so he's welcome to do with it anything he'd like. At that point, it becomes the Hall's decision whether to accept it or not. I think the decision rests with them, and that Ecko should go ahead with the asterisk if he wants to.
Also, I'm not inclined to feel too sympathetic for Bonds.

If Barry gets in as a cheater, then they should let Pete Rose in, and Shoeless Joe, since he did nothing to deserve his banishment. The way I see it, anything that keeps Bonds out of the hall is a good thing. Bring on the asterisk!!

Here is my solution:
Ecko bought the ball, so I dont disagree that it's his property and he can do what he wants with it. With that being said, I think the HOF should flip the situation on him and NOT accept the ball. If they let him mark the ball and then donate it to the Hall, then what keeps fans in the future from buying pieces of memorabilia and writing hate or racist messages on them. Or from advertisers buying the ball and branding their logo on it. Just imagine if Doritos or Tide or Viagra bought the ball, just so they could brand a logo and then donate it...would that be okay with baseball fans? Can Rupert Murdoch buy the ball, then write Myspace.com all over it and "donate" it?
If Ecko wants to donate the ball, then let him donate the ball clean. Leave it up to MLB to write up something to GO ALONG with the display and describe this ERA of baseball in general.
Dont let the public act like clowns and do what they want with history, then "donate" the items, thats ridiculous.

they're bodily going to burn an asterisks onto the baseball (kinda like cowboys used to style their livestock returned in the day). the purpose of it rather is to indicate the actuality that the record probably got here under assistance from roids like putting an asterisks subsequent to a reality in a e book and on the backside of the website is a footnote explaining the asterisk. greater symbolic than something.

it is the clother mark ecos ball which he bought so it is his so he could do what he wants and then if he wants to give it too the hall of fame they can except it or they can ask for it if they want it so its up to the hall of fame

like I said on another question:
It should go in the hall as it is in the books. No asterisk in the books then no asterisk in the hall.
If there were an asterisk in the books then fine but there is NOT!!!

He said the asterix will be removable, so if Barry Bonds apologizes it will come off.
