I don't have to worry about that anymore.

First of all, make sure you sitter can stay a little while longer. it's not fair to the sitter if you stay out late without giving them any notice. As for overtime pay, I used to get ~5 dollars an hour when I was sitting. Depending how long you're gone, just toss the sitter an extra bill, like a ten or twenty as a little bonus. But that's entirely dependant on how long they're staying with your child/children.

that depends on the age of the babysitter, and how much over it went. Typically, it's best to apply the same rules of overtime to babysitters as to work days for normal people: time and a half. i.e., if you're paying $8 an hour, pay $12 for every hour late you are. if you';re in hour 1, pay an extra $4 (even if you're only 10 min or so late). if you're 1 hour, 15 min late, pay an extra $8, and so on. if you're REALLY late, and it was really an inconvenience to the babysitty, paying double wouldn't be unacceptable.

Well it is faitr to pay them at a rate similar to what they were already working.

$20 for a 3-4 hour date. ($5 an hour)

If the date runs over 1 hr the an extra $5-10 is appropriate
If the date runs over 2 hrs then $15 is appropriate
If the date runs over 3hrs and it is REALLY late like 11pm-2am then $20-$30 EXTRA is about right.

Time and a half for the extra hours worked. I think that's fair. Hope the date (went/goes) well!

Your date should never, ever go beyond 2 hours late, first of all.

I'm a professional nanny, and I get time and a half anytime I'm told I'll be off and I'm not.

Depends on what you are getting in the "overtime".

It would be cheaper to just hook up with the babysitter.

Call the sitter and tell her dinner is taking longer than expected and offer $$$.

When did dates start being timed?

Hourly rate plus better tip and any after hour bonuses previously agreed to or in common practice. Plus, of course, transportation home with explanation.

Have the decency to phone the sitter and negotiate directly!
