Tradition and survival-
Remember in this country women were considered 2nd class citizens less than 40+ years ago; women had no legal claim to their husbands property or money...yada, yada, yada. Any smart mother tells her daughter to have her own stash, just in case her man turns out to be no good and leaves the family. Hence a good mother tells her daughter to have her own money, so she won't be in the position to be financially controlled by her husband.
Do some women abuse this tradition.... Hell yeah!

Let me think. I just quit a job after being 100% vested, and got a 47,000 check. I used about half of it to pay off bills... I then took around $12,000 and purchased a motorcycle that my hubby wanted.
This is after just 2 years ago I bought him a brand new right out of the box motorcycle with the money I got in re-financing my home... as I was working and he was not, someone was paying for this house....
I make $30.00 an hour, he makes $14.00 an hour, he eats out daily, I take pb&j's to work....
Let me think what else... oh yeah, the 2003 pickup I just paid off is now his... Just bought him a Wii .
Yeah, I think that I spend his money quite nicely. Just ask him.
p.s. he's still waiting for me to buy him yet another bass guitar... (he already has like 3)...
You may have generalized just a bit, huh ???

i am a stay at home mum, i hate having to take money off my partner and every penny i have of my own goes back into the house. whether its home decoration, clothes for the family, food and days out. i rarely buy anything for myself. so if spending my cash on these nice things is for my enjoyment (as my partner and you would say) then so be it. but at the end of the day its for everyone Else's also.
I'm sick of men making hardworking house wife feel second best and as they don't earn the cash they are not entitled to it. total up what i do in a week and it would cost hundreds to hire someone to do all my work.
sorry I'm a pissed off stressed out mum who needs a large glass of wine lol x

Same reasons husbands spend their wives money and keep their own for their own enjoyment.
Honestly, what household are you living in? We share completely equally, and my income is higher than his...

husbands? Do you mean males? It sounds like you have some negative opinions of women in general and it might suit you better not to apply you personal experience to the majority of women who support themselves and their family - sometimes with their husbands (if they aren't useless).
