One landed on my head this summer while I was sitting under a tree, it's a Katydid and it's amazing how much they look like leaves. They're much larger than tree hoppers, about 1-2 inches depending on the species. Leaf hoppers are tiny, about an1/8th of an inch to 1/4 of an inch.

it's called a leafhopper because it looks like a leaf and that is it's disguise from predators.
