Generally objects in the world we live in tend to have the same purpose in the other world (it has so many names, i don't know what to call it - ironcally none of those names describe what i mean very well lol) so a mirror in this world that reflects our image would do the same for "spirits" - (by "spirits" all i mean is, those who were never off this world)

ok... best way to describe it is wih an example; in Scotland there were a group of people praticing magic (or whatever you want to call it). the group needed a mirror and the leader of the group used the mirror of the door of his wardrobe. The result of this was that many in the group saw a grey figure in the mirror, this disturbed them and they moved.

The leader of the group was preforming a cleansing ritual since the group had moved and as this was a long process he fell asleep for a short while. when he awoke the room was in darkness and as result he could not see. a few moments later he heard scratches and growling from where the mirror was placed, this grew louder and he ran screaming from the room. Although there were scratches on this man there was no evidence in the room when it was later checked. the mirror was removed and later destroyed.

that was a bit of a long story, but my point is that as a mirror it allowed this "spirits" reflection to be seen, but as the doorway of his wardrobe, it acted as a doorway.

Not unless you have an evil mirror :)

Actually, it's funny you say that because I don't like mirrors. There are none in my house except in the bathroom. I do deal with spirits, and I have seen things in the mirror that I didn't like. I mean, non-threatening things, but still freaky. What is normal to a spirit is not usually normal to a human. So it's a bit eerie to see...

Just because it's in a mirror doesn't mean it's evil, though...just disturbing to look at. Nothing that I know of lives in mirrors, but like reflections apparently some can be seen in them. Don't worry, they can't do anything to you anyway :)

Often said the the mirror reflects the soul, (why vampires not supposed to have a reflection) and to a degree I think it's true. If you stare at anything long enough your brain will eventually get bored and summon "images" to keep itself occupied.

What you expect to see has some effect of what it puts in. Many psychics use a smoked mirror as such a focus, because they are much easier to cart around than a crystal ball, and there's less to distract.

So if you WANT to see bad things looking back at you then you will do. People have also reported seeing the image looking back at themselves age, even to the point of becoming a skeleton, which is a bit scary. (It does teach one not to be scared of ageing/death!)

Think the cautionary tale we were told as a children is to prevent vanity.

Hi well there is such a thing as scrying into a black mirror, it has to be black although it CAN work with a normal one, if you sit and star at a mirror long enough, if you want to contact spirts then you do this and they come through the mirror/ so basically yes they come to the mirror and I suppose can also get trapped there if they are not release, as I think these are know as door ways for the spirits,

But just looking into the mirror may play tricks on you but to scry you have to sit there for ages and really concentrate so obviously you probably will claim you see things, or maybe you actually do. I dont know as I have never tried it but it is known very well for contacting spirits

I think the question may need to be revised. Typically, demons do not "live" in mirrors, but rather become trapped in them. Mirrors are also used as gateways to other realms such as the underworld, various versions of hell, and even Wonderland. Since you're writing your own story with your friend, I recommend you come up with your own ideas about what to call someone trapped within a mirror; this way you own the story and its ideas and potentially great a whole new way of looking at a common object. The best way to do this is to come up with a few specific features of the creatures that inhabit or are trapped by the mirrors and stick to the "cannon" that you create for your shady beings. Hope this helps! Be well, Raven, a fellow writer

Yes if you look into a mirror with a mercuric guilding on the back then after looking for several decades you will see a hideous sight that of your own face only much much older. Just watch telly instead like the rest of normal yet boring humans do, ( and some dogs as we had a dog who watched telly, come to that he also looked in mirrors)

Mirrors are great tools for seeing spirits, although the spirits don't "live" in the mirror. And most spirits are good (or neutral), not bad. Mirrors, gazing balls, gazing ponds, crystal balls, all those thing can be used to see through the veil that seperates us from the spirit world. Or, if you're like me, you just see them with or without any tools.

After much pondering over the years about the nature of evil, I have come to the conclusion "evil", as in Satan, the devil, etc, does not exist. (Just please read on before coming back with religious rhetoric!)

Think about it. With the exception of natural disasters, just about any thing "evil" you can think of is actually rooted in a DECISION made by some person using free will. You can choose to get up, get dressed, go to school or work and become a productive member of society. OR, you can chose to sleep til noon, shoot up drugs, skip the hygiene and lay around in a fog while life passes you by.

From early on, we make our own choices. Parents do make decisions for us at first, but some of those parental decisions are bad and will lead us away from doing what is best for ourselves. That starts a never ending downward spiral.

A great deal of hunger in the world is due to political decisions, or other's choices as to who eat and who will go without. The turmoil in the Middle East is about choices made by various people to go to war, fight back, retaliate, or become fundamental religious extremists. (That goes for ALL religions.)

On the other hand, we can make conscious decisions is to live in harmony, peace, with tolerance to all the wonderful diversities human beings demonstrate. How awful if everyone looked and acted identical. We would become a flock of sheep.

Humans, however, being sentient beings have to muck up the process by choosing to steal, rob, or beat up other humans over possessions or minor insults.

Every thing comes down to choices. Good positive choices or bad negative choices which can have very negative consequences on other people.

What you see in a mirror are your own fears and insecurities. YOU can make a choice as to how long you are going to believe that myth. If you are having difficulites with that, then the help of a therapist would be beneficial.

Take care.

In a way yes. The story itself is a christian anti-vanity morality scare tactic.

Mirrors are however one of the possible gates through which we can contact the spirit world. It is possible to close these gates so a mirror can be made safe. I prefer not to have mirrors myself.

There was a rumour in my primary school (right after we studied the Tudor period of history) that if you turned off the lights in the bathroom and said bloody mary so many times. her ghost would apeear and wither
cut off you're head
tell you something

of course, noones head was chopped off but there are many ledgends and folklore involving mirrors.
at the end of 'family of blood' (an episode of doctor who) the doctor supposedly locks one of these evil aleins in a mirror and you can sometimes see her out ogf the corner of your eye etc.

the mystery of the mirror and how it relates to fact is very mysterious. and for someone who believed the bloody mary mirror thingas an 8 year old, is something that mystifies me!

hope you don't get to freaked out by mysterious mirror mysteries!
