Hosting a MySpace-type Web site is an expensive proposition. You need to start with at least one dedicated server and design your application with a server cluster in mind (with any luck, you will outgrow a single server, so think of upgrading to a cluster as a matter of when, not if).

The ideal hosting company would have to be a dedicated server specialist. For a single server or a small cluster, you could contract with someone like RackSpace. Eventually, you will have to buy your own hardware and either host it in your own data center or put it on colocation. To do that, you will need a dedicated hardware and network engineering team, separate from application development team.

There are several ways to go about doing this. But you have to really shop around and ask the right people. I wouldn't get a site on myspace or facebook or anything similar. I would go to elance.com and have someone bid on what you are looking for. These people are inexpensive and good. I have used them for projects I work on. you could also try marketamerica.com, that is the one that I am using now. Or support small businesses and advertise on Craigs list for a web developer etc.
