I think Jonah is nice but I wouldn't use Riley for a boy at all. It's definitely a girls name. Riley is like the name Kelly. Great irish name, initially used as a surname, tried out on boys but never with any real popularity and then took off for the girls. There is also a cartoon on Disney called The Replacements and the main girl character's name is Riley.
Riley sounds and looks all girl to me. R-I-L-E-Y and G-I-R-L. I know of several girls name Riley in the town we live in.
There are alot of other great irish boy names. What about Liam?

Love is,
I like the name quite a bit. But before you make a definite decision about whether to name your child that, there is something you should probably know about naming a boy Riley. My son's middle name is Riley and we decided to call him Riley instead of his first name, because he and his father have the same first name. Unfortunately, when our son turned ten he chose to stop going by the name Riley because more girls are called Riley than boys now a days. He was constantly being teased for having a girl's name. We explained to him that Riley is an Irish boy's name meaning "valiant" and that we named him that because two of his great grandfather's were named Riley. But, even though he knows that his name is meant to be for boys, it doesn't change the fact that in our country (U.S.) it has become more of a girl's name. So, we supported his decision to have people call him by his first name. It caused quite a bit of confusion in our house at first, but we have sorted it out now.
I really love the name Riley, and I must admit that it kind of hurt when he abandoned it. Oh, man I'm tearing up about it again. I guess it makes me feel like I accidentally did something that has caused my son emotional pain, when my intention was to give him a strong good sounding name that he would be proud of. Anyway, I know it wasn't my intention to cause him pain, and I really want to make sure that you and anyone else who is thinking of using Riley as their son's name know about the potential teasing he may get when he goes to school. I know of one other Riley who has changed what people call him because of being teased, so I think it is just another boy's name that has turned into a girls name (i.e., Tracy, Stacy, Carol etc.)
I don't know of any boys having problems with the name Jonah and I can't imagine Jonah ever becoming a girl's name so you're probably safe there.
Congratulations on your future bundle of joy and I hope you find the perfect name for your little boy!

When it comes to names for new children, the only thing everyone can agree on is that everyone doesn't agree.
Personally, I like the name Jonah. It's solidly Biblical, yet not overused. I think Riley might cause problems for him in school, and you also might find it cumbersome, as well. It's one of those gender-neutral names, that also happens to rhyme with things that could be used as teasing ammunition.
Truth is that your generation isn't mine, which means what I think might not matter to you, at all. I accept that. In my generation, we never would've intentionally given a child a name that may be more of a burden to him, than a blessing.
Also consider whether or not initials of the first and last name could be used against him by grade school children.

It's hard to say I do not know what your last name is so I don't know if it will fit well. However, I do like Riley! Jonah is not my favorite name at all. Funny that you like Jonah though because my absolute fave biblical name is Judas so what about Riley Judas ? Just some food for thought. God bless

To me, I think you should mabe choose a different middle name...I think the name Riley Joseph is nice...Jonah would be better as the first name.
~ Best of Luck, I hope you find a great boy's name!

If you say it togeather, then it just kind of sounds too long. Riley Jo would sound O.K., but I think that Jo Riley, sounds really good. If you are just going to have this as his first name and keep it separated from the middle name, then it sounds O.K., but I don't like Riley Jonah togeather too well.
