Here in the US, a couple of days in jail for the first offense. You can check your state laws on the web for specific detail. In Saudi Arabia they cut off your right hand.

It depends on what was stolen and if you are asking civil or criminal punishment. Sentencing guidelines vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction for criminal theft. In civil tort common law, stealing is either referred to as trespass to chattel or conversion. For conversion, the remedy is that the defendant would have to pay for the full value of the property stolen.
