I'm not sure where your from, but they can here in Canada, it might be worth a trip up here to get married and to see if the US will recognize the Canadian wedding certificate, if not it could mean that no one married in Canada and living in the US, weather gay or not would be considered married, it would be interesting to find out

In certain places homosexuals can get civil partnerships. This is basically a registered coupling of the two people. The reason homosexual marriages cannot go ahead is because marriage is a religious concept, and homosexuality (unfortunately) is not.

I'm not really sure..but i mean what's it to us to judge anyone..if these people are happy being homosexual..so be it..what happens behind closed doors is their business..and who you love should not matter..we have all these so called christians..but who are they as well as anyone else to judge..only God..can will and should judge us..I say if you are going to live by the word..practice what you preach and stop being so darn hypocritical..my brother is gay and if he ever finds the right mate..i would like to see him get married if he's happy..i personally don't have a problem with it..and don't see why people should care so much

Actually it doesn't have anything to do with the church or the far right...
For a history of the same sex marriage issue you will find all you need on this web-site.
Would a legal civil union meet the need of people who are of the same sex?

Because Americans can't let go of their Puritanical beliefs and accept that people who are DIFFERENT should still be granted the same rights as everyone else.
Every last argument used against homosexual marriage (except procreation) was used to oppose interracial marriage.
As for the procreation argument (gays can't procreate, therefore they shouldn't marry), I've never seen people mutter and back pedal more than when I retort "so since I haven't been able to conceive with my husband after 4 years of trying, we shouldn't be able to continue to be married, right?"
There isn't a good reason to prevent gays from being married.

They can is some places but most others don't allow it because they think it will hurt heterosexual marriage. I think that is true, because if they let gay people get married then all those closeted gay married republicans will leave their wives and come out and then all the divorced women will be sad...... and thats not good for straight marriage.

They can. The common misconception is that Christianity tries to dictate what constitutes a marriage. In some countries people marry animals and hilltops. Perception of marriages have different meanings by different groups. In the States, the Abrahamic ideologies influence the majority of the populace so anything other than a Man and a Women together isn't recognized.
I say, who cares who recognizes it...it's between you and the other person.

Because gay marriage is considered a "moral" issue, and too many people in power right now consider it immoral.
I personally think it is ridiculous to outlaw gay marriage. To get married to my girlfriend would be my Constitutional right. Religion should have nothing to do with politics.

Why can't our 'civilized ' society just totally ignore people's personal business? WHO CARES if ANYONE gets married or not?
The answer IS, the control freaks in our society want to dictate the 'standards' everyone must live by.
We personally don't mind anyone getting married, just go do it all by yourselves without pushing it in our faces.
