I hope you have a great time. I'm assuming you will be going primarily to London and Paris. They are both big cities--my favorite is Paris because most of the residential areas are outside the center of Paris. Walking along the Seine River is wonderful, and the city center is easily walked. The Louvre Museum is interesting but huge, so you will only be able to see a tiny part of it. BTW, the Mona Lisa is over-rated--it's very small and behind bullet-proof glass, and there are always tons of tourists waiting to see it. I love the Musee D'Orsay (sor tof across the river from the Louvre) because I love Impressionist paintings and that is THE best place to see them.

In Paris, be sure to get crepes from street vendors (very safe, no food poisoning). Ethnic food like from Morocco is going to be a lot cheaper than "French" food. There is even a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza Parlor! A lot French young people speak English, but you should learn some phrases before you go, just to be polite.

In London, take the double-decker bus ride around the City--everything there is spread out. Buckingham Palace is a must, and is walking distance from Victoria Station, a major train and bus center. You must try Fish & Chips, although they are not allowed to serve in newspaper like they used to (sanitation laws). They may speak English, but sometimes you wouldn't know it--some people are very hard to understand. Also, they drive on the "wrong" side of the street, and all the major streets in London have "LOOK LEFT" or "LOOK RIGHT" painted on the pavement so you don't get run over :)

There is SO much to do in both places, you have to really choose carefully. I know you'll have great fun, but like all large cities, you have to be careful both with yourself and with your possessions. Get a travel pouch to put under your shirt/sweater to keep your passport and extra money. You will probably be taking the Eurotunnel (Chunnel) from London to Paris--very cool as you go very fast some places and then you are under the Channel for about 40 minutes.

Be sure to get your passport very early because it is taking up to 4-5 months to get the documents from the Passport Office (US Government). Have a wonderful time!

I've been to Paris, France and it a bit dirty like any other city but different at the same time. It you have never been to
Europe you will love it! The food, drinks and the fashionable people. Don't forget to try the nutella crepes!

The best advice I can give you is just go with the flow...
Do as much as possible but also venture out and expereince the non-tourist things and areas of France.

Have fun!

England is an island which is part of Europe. It has a beautiful long history and architecture. However it is also modern. France is a large country in Europe that also has a long history, often tied to England. Both countries are very much modern in terms of the environment, the rights of women, and education. Have a wonderful trip.
