Traditionally, the White House doesn't usually comment unless the Vice President is running, and then it is hoped that the President will back his running mate. Other than that, the President concentrates on running the county. Also, if the President stays out of it, he avoids accusations of trying to influence the election.

This time, most of the candidates are probably hoping the Bush doesn't back anyone. His popularity is so low that if he were to say he actively supports (insert name), it might be a death blow.

Who cares? Personally If I were a Republican candidate, I wouldn't want his endorsement. It would do that person more harm than good in my opinion. Bush has stayed out of that subject for a good reason. The Republican Party wants him to keep a very low profile. Sure, they want him to appear at some fund raisers, but for the most part, he's out of the process. Of the Republican candidates in the running, who is even mentioning his name??? The candidates have enough problems trying to keep the White House without Bush's opinions.

I'd guess it will be Giuliani.
Giuliani has supported and campaigned with Bush in the past. It also seems like Giuliani's entire stance has been that of following every move Bush has made.

I couldn't imagine how devastating it would be to Giuliani and his campaign if Bush endorsed someone else.

I heard somewhere that he said that he likes Giuliani. It wasn't an official endorsement. I think that it was just an off-the-cuff remark.

They will all tell him they don't need his support and tell him to support their challenger.
