why do people smile?

seriously....why do the corners of the mouth turn up like that when someone is happy...?

Because we needed a method of communication before we learned how to use language.

This developed into facial expressions...All humans understand that a scowl shows displeasure and a smile shows happiness. It's simply a way for us to express ourselves without using words.
