Just to answer your main question: They are very useful for certain purposes, but because they can be beaten their use in court should be, and is, treated with much caution. Also, the ability of the person administering the test is crucial to the accuracy of the test. A good operator can usually tell if a person is trying to "beat" the test, and varies the sequence of questions to overcome this. Finally, some people are so nervous that no meaningful reading can be obtained. Hope this helps. Have a nice day!!

They aren't admissable in court for the reason that they are not 100% effective. I think they are a useless tool that shouldn't be used at any level because they can be beaten.

I don't believe in the tooth fairy, either. If a polygraph really worked and someone was charged with a crime they could take the test and if they 'passed' they could never be charged with the crime. That doesn't happen ANYWHERE. They are usually used to intimidate lower class, uneducated, superstitious people.

Well...just like Global Warming....It's not a lie if you truley believe it. Therefore, polygraph tests can be beaten.

they are not useable in a court of law where your personal freedom is at stake, but they are used in an investigation to build a case, and can be used for security clearence and so on
