I want to make a life size version of a movie character (human male) for myself and my friends amusement, sillyness, jokes, etc. I've looked around online but can only find patterns for small dolls. I don't want him to be paper mache or like a statue, but somewhat soft and posable. Just to be clear I'm not doing this for anything dirty (which is another prob i ran into looking around online). Any help, advice, tips, patterns would be extremely helpful.

Buy enough white or beige fabric to be able to lay down on it, and then take some white paper the same size, and have a friend draw around your body, and make a pattern. Pin the cut out pattern to two pieces of fabric, and cut out the shape. You can go to your favorite celebrities web page, and using a printer, print out their picture on a special T-shirt transfer paper. Then iron on the transfer to the face of your cut out body. then turn the face side down, and sew the two pieces together. Leave an opening. turn the body right side out, and stuff with pillow stuffing, then dress your buddy in styling clothing! We did this with kids, at the daycare, it was a blast!

It's easy....!

Get a friend to trace the shape of your arms/hands, head/neck and legs/feet on very large pieces of paper allowing enough margin so that you can get the right volume for each body part.

Use an old pair of jeans, sew a T-shirt to the waist and stuff the legs and body out to the size desired. Attach arms/hands, legs/feet and head and you have the beginnings of a huge rag doll.

You could buy the doll a cheap wig from a party shop and have fun making a face.

Dress the doll up !

You can design it all yourself of course. Try getting onto some dollmaker bulletin boards. They can help you with the face part.

All the rest, the body and hands, feet, legs and arms, are easily done to size, but the head needs the most work.

"Mildred and the Professor" life size doll pattern can be found at
www.magicthreads.com. Another site, www.longago.com, has a 29-inch
doll pattern called "The Material Guy". I have enlarged that one to make a
5'5" guy.

pvc pipe can be easily cut to length, joned at various angles with couplers, and is fairly light weight. Good Luck!
