It depends on where you are going and how you plan to get there. Sometimes the less you bring, the less to weigh you down. You may not need to bring anything but yourself. You may not have anything TO bring but yourself.

Neither a suitcase nor the illusion of having one is necessary for traveling. The existence of a combination of a traveler with a place in which to travel seems to be the minimum sufficient condition for traveling. Although, an actual suitcase might prove to be more useful than the illusion of having one when it comes to carrying around a load of actual items like clothes, gifts, etc.

It all depends on how you wish to appear to others. In the case of the emperor, his new clothes would have fit into an illusion of a suitcase. If you are good with that, bring an illusion with you.
