1. He was a back up dancer for Digital Underground (see "the Humpty Dance" and "Same Song"
2. He studied Acting, Ballet, poetry, and jazz in the prestigious Baltimore School of Arts
3. In Harlem (where he grew up, not Oakland) he was part of an acting troupe (i.e. Broadway plays)
4. He never had a prison record until AFTER he was a rap artist

I'm not taking away from his impact or his talent, which he definetely had. But I'm just wondering why people think he was a thug? I think he was an intelligent actor who eventually lost track of who he really was and what he was trying to portray.

Agree? Disagree?

"because he was a drug dealer and other things and he went to jail" - I never heard of him selling drugs. And Martha Stewart went to jail, does that make her a thug?

"he was a thug. he admitted it that he was. if u listen to "dear mama" you will see. Plus he got "Thug Life" tattooed across his stomach" - So if i say I'm a thug and get a tatoo that makes me a thug? lol

I agree with you-I think he was an amazing artist and he was highly influenced by those around him. I think he hooked up with the wrong people and it cost him his life. Or maybe that was really who he wanted to be or was. Who knows? We probably will never know.....

Good question!

Well he actually was he knew how to turn the gangsta mode on but not off and started going too far and being obnoctious and just lost all sight of his earlier views on life but because of his music the message wasn't spreading the way he wanted it to instead of more positive roles people saw him as "anotha rich N...." and decided not to hear his side of any story where obviously he was innocent so pac continued his path at least trying to do something positive even though there were major set backs in his career and personal life which eventually took his life in the end but Pac was an innovative entertainer for every mistake forced in his fault he also had a positive song for its natural replacement. So in reality he was a thug even a kind hearted thug for that matter

1. thug just doesn't apply to the fact that someone sells drugs or gang bangs.

2. its the fact that tupac was FOR THE PEOPLE. he let white American know what it was like to grow up poor and black in america. he did that from and through his music.

3. being a thug is hard, their are some people who's parents were CRACK FIENDS and the only way they knew how to survive was to rob, steal and kill. tupac was trying to INFORM not only white but, blacks to the many different ways their are to live. he wanted people to make the best out of whatever situation god put them in LIFE.

4. when you don't have the latest style of clothing and other people look down on you and judge you, THEY may see a thug. not coming from the right neighborhood can make you seem like a thug. ITS PEOPLE PERCEPTION.

STOP trying to make things in life so CUT&DRY, because that's not how life is.

TUPAC WAS A MUSICAL ROBBIN HOOD.
yes, i do understand what your saying with point 1-4 but, you are in fact TAKING AWAY FROM TUPACS IMPACT.

honestly listen to the music nowadays and compare it to the 90s...everyone thinks there thugs now cus they talk about drugs and crap while they are on anti drug commercials at the same time....the word thug in the 90s is different from todays definition .....he is considered a thug after his career because of what he did but he was a back up dancer when he was just making it in the rap scene...he went to art school just like an artist we all know LIL WAYNE and if he was in art school i think he WOULD be acting, cus thats the whole point...and he went to the penitentary when he was in the elementary school (well that is wut he said in dear mama)..

he was a thug. he admitted it that he was. if u listen to "dear mama" you will see. Plus he got "Thug Life" tattooed across his stomach

Thats why he's such a great rapper because he talk about the life he lived and how you gotta survive out there. Listen to the song "Shorty wanna be a thug".

And no he did have problems with the police and society before he was a rap artist

Tupac was in jail even before he was born, he was born in a prison when his mother birthed him. His mother was a Black Panther and a revolutionary. His God father is Geronimo Pratt, do yall have any idea who that is???...And you are questioning Tupac's gangsta? Being a "thug" is in his genes. Although he was involved in prestigious activities and arts, he was never living prestigiously. I suggest yall do your Tupac homework, perhaps go watch his documentary and you will understand more about why he was, the way he was.

I agree fairly. I suppose sure, it might've nonetheless went within the path it's now. However Jay-Z & Biggie ordinarily might have shaped a organization (i.e. The Commission) they usually might have taken over the sport. LL was once falling off besides (Mr. Smith was once his final album valued at shopping), and as for 2pac, you're surely proper approximately him. I suppose the West might have ruled the South, however might placed out unhealthy tune while.

You need to re evaluate the meaning of thug, especially when referring to 2pac as any fan of his knows his interpretation of the word was quite different than the publics.

99% of the people who claim to be a thug probably have other characteristics that would suggest otherwise. I think it's more of a way to label your ideology, especially on the mic.
