Only in so far as you are a witness to what happened. The law requires you to be in control of your car at all times and rear ending someone is not considered as being in control. Since you managed to avoid the other car you were controlling your vehicle. The person behind you wasn't.

if you don't collide with something, you're not in the accident. if you swerve to avoid hitting someone, and the person behind you hits them instead, they and the person who was in front of you are involved. You are a witness to the accident.

there are various exceptions to this - if you're driving recklessly, and you drive through a stop light that is red, causing one person to hit another, you may not be involded in that accident, but i think you can be charged with causing it.
