Romantic Warrior is complete prick, don't pay attention to the narrow minded idiot.
Seriously, America as enough problems of it's own: health care sucks, immigration/illegal problems, poor economy and not too mention nearly every non-U.S. citizen dislikes the nation.... why would the United Kingdom want to 'change to be like us'... get a life sonny jim and some education then your poor *** might find a job like the rest of the hard working citizens and legal immigrants of this country have done for centuries!
However, it is near enough impossible to do what you wanting. You would first need a work permit and the only way to get a work permit is to already have had a job offer from a company based in the States and they must petition for this on your behalf. Sounds simple enough, but it is not, for that petition to be successful the company must prove that there are no qualified U.S. workers eligible for the employment on which the petition is based.
And in a country like the United States this is very unlikely unless you are seeking a very highly skilled job.
Below is some reading for you.

Why? In six months the USA will be mired in its worst recession since the 1930s. There will be no jobs for anyone! The EU is going to leave us in the dust, so I'd suggest staying home. There's nothing here worth all the trouble to enter this country.

If you don't live here as a citizen then you can't, and I'm telling you this because I'm sick and tired of Americans being out of work because we have too many immigrants taking jobs out of people who live here, pay taxes and do all the legal things to live here. So go back home and start your own business and change your country to be more like us.

Look around in your own country for an organization that wants to send you to the US for a few months. Don't even try applying directly in the US. It won't work.

You'd first want to know that most people here wouldn't take kindly to calling people who disagree with you a "tw@t" as you did in a response to one of my questions.
You'd need to get a work visa, establish a resisdence and then apply whereever you like-fast food? retail? Whatever you like.
Do you like Cities? Move to NYC. Do you like warmer temps and a more laid back atmosphere? Move to GA.
good luck!

you make it sound like if you are not a us citizen, if so, you can always get a temporary work visa. and if you are a citizen, the answer is simple, get up and go look for one and you will find it.
