im in 8th grade-and for science fair i need a way collect data in a way that is natural, and in which i get clean results
i was thinking of having my group of around eight-sit in a circle in full view of eachother
a problem is, how do i keep my subjects from doing things that will mess up the testing?
like talking, and touching eachother
my class is very restless
i was thinking of using grades 3 through 8
do you think 3rd grade is an okay enough grade to start with?
in your opinion, what is a good amount of time for testing?

It's best if you get the group together under another pretense--you want to ask the people their opinions on music, or food, or something. Then, one or two "plants" in the group (your researchers) yawn and measure how many others start yawning and how long it takes them. You'd have to do this a number of times to get more accurate data.

Make a video of people yawning and play it for the class. There is a Pepsi commercial on youtube you could use as well. Type Diet Pepsi Max yawn ad by BBDO into youtube and that would most likely work. That commercial makes me yawn every time. Don't tell them anything about the video just have them watch it and you watch them. Good luck

No, even while human beings yawn i do no longer. i like to play a pastime with my acquaintances the place somebody will yawn and we observed who yawns first. I in no way in many cases win except i'm ill with a chilly as a results of fact i'm getting so drained this is as though I stayed up an entire week with a wink of sleep.

Two groups. You give a 5 minute speech on something ELSE!
Group 1. During the speech you yawn, have someone count how many others do too.
Group 2. During the speech you DO NOT YAWN. Count and compare results.
After each speech tell the group what you were doing any why.

How about taking a camcorder to a mall or common area and sit down and begin talking and yawn! Photograph all the people who yawn, don't forget to ask their permission to use their likeness in your science fair.
I know I go to our break room and if someone yawns, it is so contagious! Actually a social effect you can research on-line under psychology. Good luck!

go into a movie theater and watch The Heartbreak Kid, and start yawning, you wont have to force yourself to either, then watch everyone else yawn and youll see that it is contagious..

I think your idea is wonderful. You could use digital pictures or make a video if you have or can borrow equipment.

Good luck! Your project sounds interesting. I'd love to see it if I could.

Mythbusters did something like this a while back.

Go to discovery.com and click on mythbusters and see if they have anything about it there
