Either the Goo Gone (in the metal can, not the water-based stuff in the plastic bottle) or the acetone-based nail polish remover will work. Put it on an old cloth or rag and use that to wipe it off. Otherwise, you'll melt the glue. But, it will just smear all over and still be there when the solvent dries.
Also, do this in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves. These solvents are very volatile (evaporate really fast) and generate a lot of fumes that are bad for you and can be flammable.

The biggest one in the last two years on April 1 has been the circulation of the Information about a "Dooms Day Virus". Sort of like the Y2k thing every body running around frantically trying to get a quick fix. Sure made those crisis and adrenaline junkies happy. What is the Spiritually in an April fools joke?

The way I take them off is to boil the kettle and pour the boiling hot water into the jar , leave standing for 1 min, and it peels straight off , there is no glue left be-hide

Try using a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. They work great for getting labels and glue off of things and you can use them for so much more around your house. I always make sure to have some on hand.
Hope that helps!

Get some Goo Gone at the drug or hardware store. It's amazing--you put a bit on (liquid) and wait for a minute, and everything comes off! It's good for labels, removing gum, cleaning stickies off things--lots of things. A small bottle will last you years.

If the goo gone does not work like a couple of the answers suggested try WD40. I use it all the time when cleaning offices to get left on tape on countertops.

Try rubbing alcohol if soaking them in hot water & soap has not worked. And if rubbing alcohol is unsuccessful use a soak in simple green.
