On this Earth in this time Life is to create a self that can live through the day and nights and still retain a heart that is as light as a feather
if this can be accomplished life and the being living in the body and the body itself grow into something even more alive
and go forth into even grander adventures
however most only race to the grave to abandon the soul/ego of that life and reincarnate again and again and again etc

Its good that a lot of you read Douglas Adams. He's a great author. Your question is a bit vague, however. As life has many facets and paths, they should each have their own separate meanings. And for those meanings, each individual species has its own meaningful existence that should also be taken into account. There are no simple answers.

The meaning of life is unique for each individual. We all have one purpose on earth. Therefore the meaning of life is to accomplish your specific purpose. The only problem with this is that you do not get to find out what your true purpose is until after you have accomplished your purpose.

Life has a nature, not a meaning.
To collect energy, to reproduce, to protect yourself.
So get a job, find a mate, and be careful.
The whole meaning thing is just a psychological game. Play it if it gets you through the day, but don't take it too seriously.

Hate to burst your bubble, but life has no meaning. The only meaning is to reproduce and if all life were to end tomorrow, nothing would change. Life has no importance or meaning.
