Mine is 24 x 24 feet. 4-12 pitch roof. One side door, 2 windows. Cost was $13,000 in 1995. Plus $3,000 for a 16" foundation and a 4" slab. $1,000 for electrical that including 220 V. by - 60 amp with box, & 160 feet of size 6 undergrown. Bought it from a Kit from lumber 84, but added some more. Today's prices might be more. It better to buy in a kit. But have to beware of the building codes to assure the kit is under complience. Mine had to increase the garage door header with to 16". I did build it all, except the foundation. Was lots of fun.

You have too many factors to consider for anyone to give you an accurate answer on this forum. The best way to get accurate estimates is to invite bids from contractors. They will, for free, run an estimate based on what materials you want to use, how much concrete you are going to have (you may have to run a driveway to the garage per codes), etc. White siding can come in fiberboard, aluminum, steel, and concrete board. Each has advantages and each costs differently. A good contractor will sit down with you, take notes, and visit the specific site, then give you a breakdown hopefully with some options that allow you to manipulate what you want versus overall costs. Contractors expect to be asked to give bids, and I would always tell two or three of them that they are doing just that, bidding on a job. Right now you are in a "slow work" time, but when weather begins to improve, contractors will be busier and probably prices will be up a little. I would jump into the request for bids right now. And, you definitely should consider a "walk door" to the outside other than the garage door itself, for egress reasons.

Do-it-yourself, hire the labor, or what? The last time I saw a "fancy" garage was when I visited Monticello...
Next question: Building codes where you are?
As for materials, less than $2,000...you can buy the material, buy a kit, or buy one of those steel garages.
You can go with "stick-built" (2 X 4s, etc.), blocks, bricks.
My overhead garage door cost more than $500; a track mounted sliding door would be less than $100. Automatic door openers would add another $200 or so...

Figure about $10,000 max, if you pay someone to do it. About half that if you do it yourself. Consider that you have to put down a slab, frame it, put a roof on it, install a door, put on external siding, run electrical and install an opener, overhead light, couple of outlets, etc. It can add up fast.

In New England you would expect to pay between $9,000 and $12,000 depending on soil conditions, siding local etc.
