You may have a leak at the flapper valve at the bottom of the tank. This may be that the chain from the handle to the flapper is caught on something and not letting it seat all the way. Or, it could be debris or simply a worn flapper that is not allowing it to seat correctly.
As the water trickles out of the tank, it gets to a point where the float indicates a low water level in the tank and opens up the flush valve a bit. When the water gets back up to a predetermined level (where the float was adjusted to for a full tank), the flush valve shuts off. Then, 10 minutes later, it repeats.
You can get a new toilet kit at a home improvement store for about $15. But, you need to know what kind of toilet you have. Look under the lid of the tank. It should have a manufacturer's part number stampled into it. The manufacturer is usually printed on the rim of the bowl by the tank. Take that info with you and ask someone at the store for the correct parts.

You need to adjust the level that the float ball sits in the water. The float ball forces the arm UP and shuts the water off. If the static water level is too high, the water keeps flowing into the drop tube. You need to LOWER the static water level a bit. Most models you can lower by adjusting it with a screw, some of the older ones you have to bend the bar DOWN a bit.
Also, while you are at it, make sure that the seat where the rubber stops the water going into the BIG pipe (the flapper valve rubber) is clean, and that there is no mineral buildup on the rubber or the seat.
When you do flush the toilet, make sure the water action ceases entirely. It should stop completely and stay that way.

Either one of two things, the first is that your float is to high, easy fix, just pull the cover off, and lower the float adjustment, there are two different kinds, one the float looks like a ball on the end of a wire, that one you just bend the rod a little, the second is a slide type, and either has an adjustment screw that you tighten either loosen, or an adjustment rod. the second thing is the rubber flapper is bad at the bottom of the tank, when you see it it is pretty easy to change. Home Depot or a hardware store will have one for about $5.00. Good luck

Could be the refill tube, this is the little plastic pipe going from the fill valve to the top of the overflow pipe has slid down and is below the water level. If this happens when the fill valve closes the water starts siphoning out of the tank till the level drops enough to open the valve and refill the tank again. You need to raise the tube and fasten it in place above the water level. If you don't fasten it in place it could come out of the overflow pipe and spray water around and leak under the tank lid.

Open the back tank lid .. Look inside and there should be a stopper that drops down when the tank if full. usually a black rubber around 3 inches.Sometimes they come loose or unhook so they don't properly close . they are usually hooked on by little hooks like paper clips.. Sometimes you have to replace the stopper if it is old and fallling apart.. or else buy a new toilet.. You can find the replacement parts at any plumbing or hardware store..

The flapper is leaking. Put food coloring in the tank if it bleeds down into the toilet bowl you need a new flapper. That's the part that hooks to the handle with a chain. Check to make sure water isn't going down the overflow (I doubt it though)

The seal attached to the ball and cock mechanism is worn and not closing tightly enough, so over a perios of minutes the water leve in the tank drops enough for the unit to call for more water to fill the tank. It is possible it is just not seating correctly and might be fixed by opening the tank and reposition the seal at the bottom of the tank,, but if it is worn you will need to replace it.
