I still have clothes from when I was 5. I'm transferring to another college, away from home and I have to clean out my closet. Besides, my room is packed full of clothes. Even if I pack half my stuff into a suitcase (improbable) I would still have a room full of clothes.
Help! I have a lot of things my mom gave me and I want to keep them in memory of her...this is so hard!

This is an interesting situation that has much more to do with psychology than closet space. Somewhere along the line you have subconsciously taught yourself to associate comfort and sweet memories of your mother in "material stuff". It's understandable that it's hard for you to throw or give away clothes that your mom bought or perhaps even sewed for you, but in the long run it's simply not practical.

If you think honestly to yourself, I'm sure that you'll agree that the very best memories of your mom are in your head and your heart - not your closet. Honor your mother by donating the clothes to a worthy charity. Then, when you feel the need to "connect" with your mom, light some candles, put on some soft music, and think deeply about some of the warmest memories you have of your mom. Like I said, you're mom is in your mind and heart...not in a box of clothes.

Take care!

Get a nice container (hatbox, keepsake box) and put only the prized clothing from your mother inside.. Like a baptism outfit, baby shoes, things of that nature.. Part with the rest... It's NOT like you are going to wear clothing from when you were 5 again ! Then really go through your closet... Have a TOSS,KEEP, DONATE and MEND pile and be very discriminate about what you keep/mend. If it's out of style than Donate... If if doesn't fit Donate. If it's something that you love that fits ... Then by all means keep it... Keep in mind if it's something you haven't worn in over a yr. it's best to get rid of it... Clothing is NOT going to replace your mother or keep her memory alive.. You have her in your heart/thoughts the clothing is just clutter/stuff. It's time to part with things and start anew ! Maybe have a good friend/family come and help you sort.. You'll feel very good afterwards and the things you donate can help someone that needs it... Good luck

well the stuff your mother gave you, you should keep.
but all the stuff you don't use or even think about using you should give away to the goodwill so that someone who really needs it can have it. (unlike you, just having stuff that someone just might need more than you, your just holding on to it.) LET IT GO
IT'S NOT LIKE YOU CAN TAKE IT TO YOUR GRAVE ANYWAY.
