I am all for registering Guns , I have 10 different ones , and all are registered to me , and on file at the State Law Enforcement Division here ... I have qualified with all my weapons and guns at the State Law Enforcement training facility .. ( have a few connections that permit me doing this .)
I do not have a consealed carry permit , because here we can carry guns in our cars in the glove box ) ....
Registration should not be used for confiscation of weapons , unless the gun owner loses his right to keep them .. If a gun is stolen , I talk to the sheriff of my county I tell him which one is stolen , he has all the information , and files a report , if that weapon is used in a crime , I am not locked up for questioning , and if it is recovered I get it back after the criminals trial ....Registration can be a good thing for both law enforcement and gun owners if it is used for the right reasons , same as guns , they are good to have when used for the right reasons ....The hard part is teaching the Government what the right reasons are .....
I also agree with the points made by the other side as well , it is terrible that people have gotten so dishonest that we should even be talking about registering a gun ..used to the community knew who could or could not have a gun , and the ones who could not , would not dare try to get one , this was when you could leave you doors open , and lawn mowers in the yard , and go on vacation , and back , and no one bothered anything ...a neigbor may have went inside to put the new paper up to aviod getting wet in the rain ...the times have not changed people have changed , they have lost morals , and values , and then came crack heads , they made a mess of most things today ....you ever chased one ? them little fkrs are fast ......I see the point to both sides , and no matter whioch way it goes , the legal gun owner is going to suffer one way or another ...

It's a useless idea. Some want it for crime detection, but tracing the history of a recovered firearm usually leads to the discovery that it was stolen from a legal owner. Guns are specifically protected by the Constitution, so registering them is improper. The State gets extra revenue, so it's an extra tax that we don't need. Plus, the State has a list of registered gun owners just in case they want to confiscate them. Here's a good reason against it:
"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."

It would end gun deaths to the same degree that registering automobiles has ended traffic fatalities.
It can serve only one purpose. The same it has served wherever instituted, tracking and confiscation to prevent resistance to a repressive form of government. Plus it is expensive.
It does not work like the fantasies you see on TV by the way. It creates confusion and cost but other than weakening the Constitution, has little impact.
So I guess my answer would be no.

In a way, it is a waste of time in some states. The guns are required to be registered, and the registration records are destroyed soon afterwords. It is just a way to keep liberals happy to think guns are registered.

Yes, I do. Will it change stop the gun related deaths? Only minimally most are done with guns bought off the black market. But any kind of attempt will help Americans.

If you are going to allow people to have weapons that only serve the purpose of violence, then yes. Registration should be required. Come on people, what are you afraid of? You got something to hide? You love the patriot act but you don't want the govt. tracking your deadly weapons? What is wrong with you?

If you buy a gun from a licensed dealer it is registered...
If you buy it from a person who bought it from a person who bought it from a person who bought it from a dealer...then it is likely still registered to the original purchaser, which can complicate an investigation if the gun ever becomes a murder weapon.
Yes it's a good idea...
ps: I have lots of guns..all of them registered to me.

The same people that tell you they don't want to have to register a gun or go through some sort of background check will also tell you that everyone should produce IDs when they vote.
Go figure. I guess voting is more dangerous than guns.
