Yes indeed the year 2000-- people made a huge issue of it because they assumed that everyones computer systems would crash in that so many were not believed to be able to recognize the roll over from 1 to 2. Some people really panicked and ran out to buy water and provisions like it was the end of the world. My company wasted thousands of dollars on generators and back up plans, etc...In retrospect it was all very ridiculous, but at the time there were some legitimate concerns. And now you have - the rest of the story.

The "Year 2000" What happened was the older computers clocks were set up to recognize only a 2 digit year (like 1999 was only 99). Computers could not go from 99 to 00 with out crashing. People began to panic as power, water, phones, and even government computers might crash and all those services would have been lost. Patches were sold so the computer could recognize a four digit year. This would allow them to go from 1999 to 2000.

It is over nothing to fear anymore! They thought everything was going to run amok due to our dependence on computers but 2000 came through without any glitches at all! Those geeks knew what they were doing!
