I am soooo lost! My parents said that they'd get me a new computer for X-mas, but, I need to find one thats fairly cheap and can hold a ton of songs, photos, and all of the Sims 2 games. Any ideas?

Hello,

Well it doesn't sound like you need a PC with a lot of "horse power," but you will need as much hard disk storage capacity as you can afford.

If your looking for a new system, the first respondent mentioned, Walmart - a very good idea. If you your looking for a budget system, check out factory refurbished machines. And....only those from a reliable dealer/company. You can "google" up refurbs (last years technology) and save a bundle while still obtaing a limited warranty.

Or.......if you're feeling a little braver and want to spend even less, take a look on eBay. Just make sure the seller has a sterling reputation and offers a DOA and/or dissatifaction refund policy

I bought a second system (Pentium D-based) systems with a lot of "bells & whistles + resident software for less than $300. That was 4 months ago, and it hasn't even hicupped - just be careful.

I'd go with a cheap eMachine or bargain/budget sold at like Wal-Mart, that is not to say out of the box it will rock. You may need a decent AGP graphics card, for the Sims 2 and at least a processor CPU of 2.2ghz. I'd recommend nVidia 7 series GPU and some extra ram 1gb.

Nothing fancy or state of the art but after say 500 bucks you are good to go. Sure hope this helps, sometimes even cheaper if you buy/purchase the parts online then someone can assemble it for you. During this time of year old models are going for cheap because of the newer models and 'Black Friday'.

Although I'm never a fan of brand name computers...Considering you can get MUCH better quality parts if you build your own...but when it comes to extremely low budget computers...It isn't THAT bad of a deal..

Try this..Get the Inspiron 531 if you want a REALLY cheap computer..But you really didn't say a budget...So it's hard to say if you should go with brandname or custom.

250 gigs should hold you by fine...it also comes with a 17 inch monitor. The only thing I'd recommend customizing on that computer...is upgrading to 2 gigs of ram..and upgrading to a cd burner....If you play any games at all...you'll want to upgrade to a graphics card solution as well since integrated graphics is not a good solution.

Choice is yours..If you have a more flexible budget..such as 800+...don't get a brand name...you may as well build a computer...Buying the right parts..you can get a lifetime warranty on graphics card and ram...as well as choose every aspect of the computer...But you'd have to get someone to build it for you.

I WOULD NOT recommend extremely cheap computers with celeron processors and semprons...These are extremely low budget and they are NOT pleasant to work with at all. If you want atleast a decently quick and responsive comptuer...get one based on Core 2 Duo, Athlon X2, or worst case Pentium 4...Anything else will be slow and annoying at most times.

I saw on the news last night that Wal-Mart is now offering a computer for $198. Not sure of the exact configuration though.
