My son is in Iraq and I need to get his truck from San Diego to Northern VA. Maybe a reliable college student looking to come home for the holidays. I don't have much $ to pay a company to ship it out here. Any suggestions?

the military will NOT ship a POV CONUS. in fact they only ship POVs OCONUS for authorized PCS moves, .

I agree, to be on the safe side, your best bet is to drive it yourself and then fly back. I wouldn't trust a random person you picked off of craigslist unless they were a bonded professional driver.

If your son is in the Military, especially in Iraq right now, he can have the Military ship his vehicle at no charge. I may not be 100% correct, but if i were you, I would LOOK INTO IT. Definitely contact his command. There is no sense into looking for someone to drive your son's car for free. They may steal the car, wreck it, joy ride it, etc. you name it! regardless what happens, your son would be reliable for the damages since he's the registered owner. I would NOT trust anyone to do this. If the Military doesn't ship it for him, then it's really worth it to pay to have it shipped to you. You should never ever put your vehicle in the hands of a stranger. I'm not saying all people out there are bad, it's just common sense it's not a good idea.

I would ask someone on his base for a recommendation. Maybe a transport company gives deep discounts to soldiers overseas. I wouldn't just hire a stranger...you're putting yourself and his car in jeopardy. Good luck to you.

Do it yourself. If you hire a stranger or even a friend, you might be asking for trouble.

The military can and will do it if his duty station has been changed. You need to contact his command.
