it depends.
i think it was unnecessary far a managerial change IN '07, but they were going to need one eventually. but Girardi has a younger, more recent feel to him, which i think could have a big effect on the team. Girardi has some managerial experience, so he's not totally in the dark, and he must have a clue of what he's doing, considering he was NL manager of the year in '06.
Torre was a great manager (i mean look at those numbers!!!) but i felt that the players felt too close to him, so that if they messed up on something, he'd just say like "no problem, your still a great guy" and sappy stuff like that. its great that they all had good relationships but you have to be some what tough on these guys, this is the business. the business of baseball.

The Yankees as a team, is what it is. A manager is probably worth maybe 5 games a season through various decision making during said games.
The only thing that will make the team better is to get one or two blue chip starting pitchers. Something that should have been taken care of before last season began.
Give Joe at least one season and then we will have the answer.

Its really a question of will the front office be harder on Joe 2.0 than Joe version 1?
Joe does have the advantage of having played in NY and this team is probably more talented and experienced than his old Marlins team (where he won Manager of the Year).
Considering Girardi is a bit more emotional than Torre, he might be able to keep Cashman and the H&H Boys off his back.
I think the Yanks will be better than expected. I'm not saying they'll win it all, but people are writing them off like this is the BIG COLLAPSE of the Yanks and they'll never get to the top again. The players on this team are very resilient and they already kno Girardi (from the bench), now they have to follow him and I think they will.

I think the Yankees will be better with Joe Girardi. I think it was time for manageral change. A new start is what the Yankees needed. Joe Torre wasn't the answer. At least not now. He was when he won 4 rings. He couldn't do it with the Yankees anymore.

I think they can be better with Girardi but there are is one possibly two big holes that he has to fill in order to more accurately answer your question. Third base and possibly catcher. I honestly think that Jorge Posada's leaving will have more of an impact on the Yankees. He knows their pitchers and they respond to him. You wont get that with just anyone including Molina. Third base will be filled via trade so we won't hurt there. We'll miss the offense that A-rod gave us but surely won't miss the invisible postseason stats.

That will depend on the number of players staying and the number of effective new faces that join the team in the off season.
As for now they should be better. They can't possibly start 2008 and bad as they did 2007.

i personally don't think the new manager will affect this team this year as much as their players will......they have lost key players at multiple positions.....i think that will be their downfall and depending on how well Joe deals with that disadvantage will effect how well they actually do
