what do they mean when they say this and is it hard and expensive to fix it? Engine needs crank

Yeah, this is baiscally a total tear down and rebuild. Make sure the car is worth the money.

If you had been more specific such as year make and model of the car more people could give you better answers. Some cars are hard to work on and engine parts can be much more expensive. If it happened to be a Chevrolet product hundreds of companies make very specific replacement engine parts.
Any off-shore car ( Nissan, Honda, Toyota) parts are much more expensive, especially engine parts.

if you need a new crank shaft,you need to think of how much money you want to spend.they will have to tear the whole enhgine down to replace it.maybe its just the crank shaft sensor which is not so much $$$.

crank is the shaft towards the bottom of the block it costs too much to rebuild that let me buy it from you i rebuild motors

it requires alot of time and effort as well as special tools to do the job correctly....
