I have lived on the coast in S.D. for two years, La Jolla, to be specific. Recently I've noticed helicopters flying up and down the coast from early morning until late at night. Does anyone know why this is going on?

This isn't fire related. If it's "naval exercises" why is this happening suddenly (the last few months)? I hope someone can refer me to a site that explains this. Please don't just give me your guess.

They are flying from Miramar Marine Air Station. For practice, training, drills etc. They used to fly inland more, but the excessive noise, danger of a breakdown crash over houses, and protests, forced them over the ocean along the coast.

Maybe they are helping to fight the fires.
