adequate healthcare, education, food and shelter, when their parents can't afford to provide for them? And why are you not against the killing of children in a country that didn't attack us?

We are not killing children in Iraq?? And I suppose none of the were killed in Vietnam either? Women and children are always casualties of war.

Notice how many of the people your question is directed to are actually answering... I have always thought the same, their energy would be more effeciently used when directed at persons/children already living in poverty, etc. How about the over HALF A MILLION children in foster homes waiting for adoption? Imagine what the number would be if abortion were illegal or how many women would die each year if abortion were illegal.

World Travelling Woman - Mike never mentioned a word about political parties... I think you're the one mixing it in there.

I often wonder the same thing. isn't it hypocritical to demand protection for the fetus and ignore the plight of a child after birth? I don't think we are killing babies in Iraq though I agree with all your other points. I don't agree with the Iraq war but I also know that our troops do not intentionally harm children and go out of their way to avoid harming them and in fact do a great deal to help them there. When someone implies our troops are baby killers they tend to make reasonable people stop listening to them. Which is a shame if their other points are valid.

You've rolled a lot of distinctly different issues into one question.

Firstly, I think you're muddying the waters by mixing religion and political parties into the same category. You have Christians who are Democrats and Christians who are Republicans. Likewise, you have Atheists who are Democrats and Atheists who are Republicans. Belonging to a particular religous group does not automatically determine one's political party affiliation.

Secondly, many political conservatives oppose abortion and government-run healthcare. Opposing government-run healthcare is not the same thing as being opposed to "adequate healthcare, education, food and shelter". Likewise, someone who supports social welfare programs could very well be a pro-lifer.

I don't think people fall into the neat little categories you'd like to generalize them into.

Most Christians I know are concerned that all children have adequate healthcare, education, food and shelter. Many have huge international organizations that use the money they collect to provide those things to children in all parts of the world.

Most Christians I know are against the killing of children for any reason, in any place, and pray that children will not be caught in the cross-fire of any conflict, no matter how it started.

I support a hand-up for people, I do not support endless welfare to women who pop out babies just to get more money. I also do not support government health insurance for 25 yr old kids. I had my own insurance when i was 25, so can others. I also support prevention of pregnancy if one does not wnat children to begin with, this includes BC, condoms, and lo and behold plan B.

There is no comparison. Those in favor of abortions often don't see that it is a developing child in the womb that has committed no crime except be an inconvenience to Illigitimate, irresponsible parents. Who would be next? Homosexuals, the elderly, the mentally challenged, You if you become disabled? Hitler did that too...

We have an infant mortality rate that is on par with the developing world. We should focus on letting wanted children live and stop protecting the fetus (which now has over a 6 in 1000 shot of infant death anyway).

I'm in favor of healthcare for the poor children, I'm not in favor of taking children off private insurance and moving them to government run insurance. And we are not killing children in Iraq.
