I want him to reuse the existing 200 bags we already have. Every time I know for sure that I'm grocery shopping I'll bring a bunch of plastic bags with me. I'm trying to be environmentally friendly here but I guess the idea has never crossed his mind.

It is perfectly fair of you to bring it up as a suggestion, so long as you realize that he may not wish to comply.

Some people need more prodding before they'll make changes in their life. And, as you've simply stated above, perhaps the idea never HAS crossed his mind.

Another option for those bags: give them to someone with a cat or a small child who might wish to use them to discard the litter box or diaper contents.

Why not the next time you go shopping take ALL the plastic bags that you've accumulated with you and have them recycle them at the store.. Then you go and buy a cotton reusable bag/tote to buy your groceries and get one for your roommate. That would be even MORE environmentally friendly ! We have recycle bins/boxes outside our local grocery stores in OHIO... good luck

You can ask but you can't make him listen. Just take the bags yourself to a self bagging store like Save a lot and drop them off. People always use the ones I drop off there.

Throw the bags out.

It's fair to ask him but not to make an issue of it.
