There are massive chunks of middle America where everyone votes straight Republican, and vice versa for large parts of California and New York. Should we all just move to random locations to prevent this? maybe our society would become more civil and Democratic.

Civil yes, as in civil war.

Should we lower the Atlantic?

All truly democratic societies are "divided" -- it's ideological divisions, disagreements and a robust debate that define a country as democratic, not unity, and certainly not "civility", at least not in the way that you understand it. Countries where everyone votes for the same candidate and where all citizens substantially agree on everything are all totalitarian regimes or religious theocracies. I know this because I grew up in the Soviet Union, where 100% of the citizens voted as one and subscribed to an identical set of beliefs and principles. I can assure you that underneath all that dignified veneer, there was nothing dainty about the USSR. By allowing public disagreement, democracy alleviates the threat of violent rebellion, civil war, and governmental repressions -- all banes of countries where forced unity and good manners triumph over honest debate. I suggest you take a less amateurish approach to the idea of elective government and realize that public discourse in a good, functioning democracy is SUPPOSED to be messy.

As to the other part of your question -- the solution is to stop treating political affiliation like a religious creed. Democratic politicians should stop dismissing people in the "red states" as illiterate hillbillies and wannabe Nazis, and instead approach their concerns with an open mind to see what it is the Republicans offer them that swings their vote. Republican politicians should stop dismissing people on the coasts as "unamerican euroweenies", elitists, and wannabe communists, approach their concerns with an open mind and see what it is the Democrats offer them that swings THEIR vote. Surely, that is a better alternative to forced moving (which would be unconstitutional, by the way).

I would be for sending Dictator Dumbya back to Texas with his right wing mafia and letting it secede. Then he could be El Presidente there for life, but THEN we would have to build a HIGH wall at the Texas northern border. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

Yes, America is too divided. No, shuffling people around won't help.
