According to the lastest Gallup survey, nearly two-thirds of Americans now believe the country is ready for a black and/or woman President. Mormons, Atheists, and Gays/Lesbians did not fair as well.
Surpisingly, whites feel way more confident that America is ready to elect an ethnic minority President than the minorities themselves do:
And, not so surprisingly, of course, Republicans feel far more confident about electing a minority President than do Democrats. But, after all, the GOP is the Party of Lincoln

This question appears every day. If were not ready then there is something wrong with us. But even if we are ready it doesn't mean that the particular ethnic or female candidate that offers to take the job is the best choice. Either Obama or Hillary will lose. They cannot both be president. When that happens it won't be because Americans are immature. It will be because one of them or both of them were not presidential material in their own right regardless of race or sex. We are ready. If a good candidate stands up we will choose them. Not all of us are convinced a good candidate has stood up yet.

Yes.
Women have held just about every other elected office, so there's no reason to balk at President. Political Correctness still dominates the realm of public discourse, so people would be hesitant to vote /against/ a female candidate, if only to prove to themselves that they aren't sexist.
And, we've already had an 'Ethnic' President - Kennedy was Irish.

i think of the american human beings desire a metamorphosis, and that i do have self assurance we "the human beings" are waiting for that selection. despite if, i'm skeptical of that selection happening given the historic custom of the american presidency being held by all white adult males (or a minimum of they look white, lol). period in-between, I merely take a seat and wait to make certain the end results of this presidential race. fantastically on condition that i've got found out an excellent lesson in the process the 2000 presidential election. the place Gore gained the main known vote and lost the election. What many citizens don't understand is we bypass into that sales area to vote for a particular guy or woman who's on the poll, to alter into the president (so we predict of). yet we are no longer quite vote casting for that quite guy or woman to win. Our vote is unquestionably a vote to % the Presidential electors from each and every of the 50 states plus D.C. this is the vote from the presidential electors of each and every state that count form and determines the subsequent president! Our votes are in common terms used to choose "Presidential electors" from our state and that's their votes that are offical, no longer ours...Does all and sundry see something incorrect with this technique? i've got found out my lesson that year...i grew to become into deceived. i've got additionally found out that this is complicated for human beings to chop up from from custom, and that i understand there are some people who could particularly die till now they see a woman or black guy exchange into president of the U.S. subsequently, I won't carry my breath.

I think so. Condi Rice would have been a great choice for the GOP in my opinion but she made it pretty clear she didn't want the job.

It seems to me that the logical progression of events would be to first have someone like that win a major party nomination, but lose the election. I don't agree with that necesarily, but it would not surprise me.
