My favorite restaurant is called "The Windmill". It's a little diner in my neighborhood that I first started going to in 1984 when I was in high school. I missed it when I lived out West for a dozen years... The same family owns it, they know me by name, they have great coffee and decent, inexpensive food, breakfast specials, lunch specials, two different soups to choose from every day... awesome french fries. It's so cool to have a place where as soon as you walk in the door they say hello, and the waitress always knows how you take your coffee and they bring it right over to you as soon as you sit down.
It's not fancy, in fact it's more of a blue collar place, but the staff and customers are just down-to-earth, friendly people and I love going there.
My favorite chain restaurants currently are P.F. Chang's China Bistro and Cracker Barrel, which my girlfriend and I usually visit when we go see her family in New Jersey.

Dave's Chili in Seattle Washington, just North of the Ballard Bridge on the west side of the road behind Ernst Hardware.... Best chili anywhere.
Mo Green's in TX for the pulled pork
The place right next to the flying J in Clovis NM for Enchilada's
Beth's Cafe on HWY 99 By Greenlake in Seattle for the omlettes Except the chicken liver omlette's. Those ya get at Rusty's Ranch house in Lewiston, ID.
Best Burgers, would have to be Tommy's in L.A.
Best Pizza, yep... Chicago

Gem here in Baltimore we have great old Diners, they are so much fun, and the food is really good, and its very family friendly......but I also like to go to nice elegant restaurants, but with three kids, I would think you are better off going to a fun place.....some place with something for the kids to do...

I love Olive Garden, but if your kids are older, I'd suggest Dave and Busters, younger Chuck E. Cheeses, kids love arcades!

Actual sit down restraunt is a little Mexican place called El Charo's but fast food restraunt would probably be Taco Bell =D
