Every time this question is asked someone inevitably brings up gas prices in Europe. Don't you imbeciles know that the price of crude impacts the entire economy, not just the price you pay at the pump? Even people that don't own an automobile will feel the pain. Oil makes the world go 'round, and when it goes up everything else follows.

Stop complaining and stop driving. In Europe 1 gallon is approx. $7.

Exactly healthcare isn't ever free, and health care in Europe sucks. I lived in Germany for 3 years.

Presumably, $96.

Expect $4 gas this summer, when the 'driving season' increased demand. Sooner if there are refinery capacity issues again.

Gas is not up much. Oil is up on speculation. It will go back down to around $70 by Feb.

I would say $4 per gallon very soon depending on where you live. Tired of driving that SUV to the store by yourself for milk yet?

Gas in the U.S. is still cheaper than in Europe.

Also, it's cheaper than taking taxis.

But if it's proving too expensive, do what I did -- get rid of your car and either bus, bike, or walk wherever you need to go.
