I am straight and I really hate it! Most of my friends are gay, and now I really want to be gay. It's so hard for me this way. They always make fun of me for it, and they tell me that it is "weird". I am afraid to come out to my two dads as straight because I think they will look down upon me for it. What do I do? How do I become gay?

Yes. I am being humorous. I was trying to make a point here. People always put down gays...but what if someone wanted to become gay?

This is a very different way to have to approach a topic that I have always had a pretty firm opinion on.

I had a friend back in high school who "decided" to be a lesbian because she was lost, floundering, and basically desperate to be different in some way from the yuppie teenagers we were surrounded by. She moved to Arizona for an internship the summer after our senior year and fell head over heels for a guy, who she still happily lives with. Looking back, she considers her sexual experimentation with same sex to have been 'horrifying' and 'physically disgusting'.

Maybe your feelings aren't that strong, but I think most of us have probably pushed ourselves too far sexually, to match a partner's needs or requests. I have, and I felt disgusting and hated myself for it.

Your body and your mind know who you are and what you need, even if you really wish you were another way. Trying to live as something you're not will always, always, always catch up to you in the end.

I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you find someone strong to keep you safe and whole, someone who will never ask you to be other than you are.

p.s. - if your friends can't accept you for who you are, you need new friends. Period, no matter what the situation is, no exceptions.

I don't see what good this satire does, other than bring out the trolls.

You can't become gay, you can't become straight. You either are, or you aren't. And, for those who don't know, people who have same-sex parents are no more or less likely to be gay or straight, it's literally the same percentiles as the rest of the country.

You cannot become gay. I think you are being humorous -- but as I have helped young people with reverse coming out before I want to make very clear that you can no more help what you are than gay people can help what they are. You are perfect JUST AS YOU ARE. Believe in yourself. You are wonderful.

Kindest thoughts and *hugs*

If your 2 Dads really love you they will accept and respect you for who you are.

What do mean when you say you "hate" being straight?

Are you still a virgin? Have you never had a meaningful loving relationship with the opposite sex?

You can't choose your sexuality or elect to "become gay".

It just doesn't work like that.

Are you kidding? If you are straight then there is nothing to be ashamed of ...the same way you accept them as they are they gotta accept you...if you are not gay then stay as it is I respect gay people but I believe its one's choice to be how we want to be. .. tell them the truth they understand...Please don't change for anyone else!

You can't become gay or you'll live a lifetime of unhappiness. Think of how one homosexual feels in a world a straight people. they feel ALONE, but they can't become straight to please others. You need to follow your heart and find your true love.

Thanks for the interesting way to think about the idea of homosexuality as a chosen orientation. More people need to think like you.
