I recommend replacing the carpet or some other type of flooring. I personally don't like carpet in a bathroom for this very reason.:)

I would suggest using a good steam carpet cleaner on the carpet. I clean houses and clean with my brother who has a cleaning business. There is a product called Oda Ban. It is good stuff. I use it in my own home. It is a good deodorizer and disinfectant. Some hospitals use it. Wal-Mart and Sam's Club is the only place that I have seen this product. If you cannot get Oda Ban call a local janitorial supply store they will have products that will be good to get the smell and germs out of your carpet. When cleaning carpet make sure there is plenty of air stirring if so the carpet will dry good and not mildew.

Sorry your toilet overflowed... Anyway.. if you have a wet/dry vac nows a good time to use it... To suck up any water in the carpet.. If you don't have one a small one will cost about $25 very handy to have around.. Just remember to take out the dry paper filter before using... That will at least get out any water out of the rug.. To clean the rug you can use a heavy duty scrub brush and some oxy-clean/laundry soap.. Just not to much. .Work in small sections and use the wet-dry vac to pick-up water...If you go to Petsmart I think they have a spray or solution that you can use to kill the germs/smell.. It's strong like bleach w/o the bleaching effects.. It will take awhile depending on the size of your bathroom ! Or you can tear up the carpet and see if the subfloor is bad if it's not let it dry out acouple days and use peel/stick laminate tile.. It's cheap and easier to maintain. If you must have rugs use bathroom mats that you can pick-up and wash once a week.. good luck

If you cant replace the carpet (which is the number one thing I recommend) You need to go and rent an industrial size dryer, a dehumidifier and a shampooer. Tear up the carpet near the wall and use the dryer and dehumidifier to dry the carpet. Once its dry replace the tack strip and put you carpet back down and shampoo it. Now this will dry and clean your carpet it may not get rid of the smell when this happened to me at the apt I lived at they had to replace the carpet to get rid of the smell.

You've run into one of the reasons carpet is a BAD idea in the bathroom. It would be far simpler for you to take it up, clean the bathroom with bleach or lysol, and get area rugs or bath mats where you want to protect your feet from the cold floor.

I have carpet in my hallway bathroom. Although I dont have this problem, try using some kind of resolve carpet cleaner. You could use Dawn dish detergent and hot water on a rag. You can also use Gain Liquid Laundry Detergent and a hot rag. Something that will clean it and get the smell out. You might also be able to find something that can be used on pet stains on the carpets that is STRONG (as you call it).
I hope this helps.
BTW~ I love the carpet in my bathrooms. Cold floors after getting out of the shower are a thing in the past! Good luck!

A carpeted bathroom? Who's idea was that? Tear up the carpet and replace with tile (or even adhesive tile). If you can't do that- try renting a steam cleaner- they're usually available at grocery stores. The high temperature should kill any germs and get rid of the smell.

I used Oxi sparkling and it did wonders... i could first carry the carpet up, placed Oxi on the two the carpet and padding. in case you in simple terms concentration on the carpet, the pad itself nevertheless has the scent and can nevertheless make its way for the duration of the carpet. Spray Oxi on, soak it up with towels to get the undesirable stuff out... then do a 2d around to artwork on the scent. leave the carpet up until the pad is punctiliously dry. additionally.. i could propose cleansing the backside of the carpet as nicely... solid success and desire this permits!

Why do you have carpeting in your bathroom? That's the stupidest thing. I don't understand why people do that.
